Ingredients
- 1 1/2 Cups sugar
- 1 1/2 Cups water
- 1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
- 1/4 Cup butter
- 6 Apples, pared, and cut into fourths
- 2 Cups flour
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 2 teaspoon Baking powder
- 2/3 Cup shortening
- 3/4 Cup milk
- 1/4 Cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
- Dash of nutmeg
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees
- Make a syrup with the first four ingredients; add butter
- Sift flour, salt, and baking powder; cut in shortening
- Add milk all at once and stir until moistened
- Roll 1/4 inch thick; cut into 5-inch squares
- Arrange 2 pieces of apple on each square; sprinkle generously with additional sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg
- Fold corners to the center and pinch edges together
- Place in greased 9 x 13 baking pan
- Pour syrup over the dumplings and bake for 35 minutes
